While she walked toward her bed, Faith got off very promptly as
she asked why Buffy had barged in.
"She knew why she came in the way she did", Faith thought
to herself.
Buffy answered hoping to get a straight forward answer from
her,
"I don't know Faith you tell me."
"Tell you what?", she asked.
Buffy answered, "Why Scott broke up with me?"
Not shocked at what Buffy had said, Faith replied,
"Scott broke up with you? Man I didn't see that coming.
Buffy wasn't amused.
As those words came out of her mouth she thought to herself,
"Thank You God."
"Why?", Buffy asked looking at Faith's eyes.
"Why what?", she said softly.
"Why would you break up me and Scott?", as her eyes watered a
bit.
Pretending not to know anything she replied,
"Break up you and Scott. Where did you get the idea that 'I' broke up
your relationship him?"
"I saw you at the Bronze talking to
Scott."
"What!"
"Don't deny it Faith, I saw you at the back entrance talking to
Scott, then he stormed off very upset at what you said to him."
"Buffy I-I..."
Before she could finish, Buffy asked 'hurt' with a tear running
down the side of her cheek.
"Why would you do this to me? I never did anything to hurt you.
I was always there for you when you needed help."
"Buffy", Faith said as she went to touch Buffy's shoulder.
Buffy jerked away very fast.
"Don't touch me, don't talk to me, I don't even want to see
you."
"What." shocked at what Buffy said.
"You heard me. I don't ever want to see you again."
"You don't mean that, B."
Faith's vision began to blur, caused by the tears forming around her eyes. Buffy turned around heading towards the door without giving Faith an answer, but Faith knew that Buffy's actions meant 'yes'.
Faith hesitated the last time she wanted to tell Buffy how she
felt, she wan't about to do it again. Buffy walked past the door
and onto the parking lot when Faith ran to the doorway and
called out to her.
"Buffy!"
Buffy didn't flinch, she just walked away without hearing what the other
girl had to say, but what Buffy would hear next would stop her in her
tracks. 'Like Superman stopping a train'
The next three words would
be strong enough to stop the slayer from proceeding, not a demon, not a
vampire, but three simple words.
"I Love You." Faith sayed
slowly.
Buffy stopped, then turned herself around.
All Buffy could do was stand where she was and stare at Faith with the
look of shock on her face.
Buffy slowly walked towards Faith, still shocked at what she had just
heard. Faith stood up straight as Buffy approached her at the door way.
"You love me?", barely getting the words out of her mouth.
"Yeah.....I guess I do, B." looking away from Buffy.
"Since when?", wondering how long she was keeping this secret.
"Since you first started caring about what I did or what I was
up to. Every time you came knocking on my door to see how I was doing.
or every time you invited me to come to the Bronze with you and your
friends.", releasing every reason why she loved Buffy.
"I-I..", Buffy was quickly interrupted by Faith.
"And every time I told you to look out when a vampire came sneeking
behind you.", giving Buffy a weird look.
Buffy was clueless to what Faith was doing.
"You know B-E-H-I-N-D you.", quickly pointing over Buffy's shoulder.
Finally realizing what she meant, Buffy turned in the opposite direction seeing a vampire about to grab her. Buffy ducked swiftly and flipped the vampire over to the sidewalk. At that moment Faith pulled out a stake that she always carried with her, and dusted the vamp.
"Now what were we talking about a minute ago.", Buffy asked smiling.
Faith quickly replied,
"I don't know? Something about me loving you."
"Oh yeah, I completely forgot."
Buffy continued to smile at Faith.
"So...", looking at Buffy ackwardly.
"So is right." staring at the brunette.
"D-Do you want to leave?", asking very nervously.
"Well I kind of have to. Tonight's my night to patrol."
"Oh..ok."
Faith was picking at old dried up paint on the side of the doorway, not
knowing what to do next.
"Well I think I'll let you go. Where are going to patrol tonight?",
Faith asking very anxiously.
"Well I was going to hit the cemetary. Giles said there was supposed to
be some demon looking for a septor type thingie. So I was going to stand
guard at the main crypt and wait for this so called demon."
As Buffy started to walk off, Faith quickly jumped beside her.
"I thought you'd like some company, during your little stake-out. If
that's ok with you".
Buffy faced the street.
"Sure I could use the backup."
Buffy and Faith reached the crypt. Both sat at a bench that was placed
along the path to the main crypt. They both sat next to each other on
the bench looking past the trees that loommed before them. Buffy broke
the silence.
"Faith."
"Yeah, B." Faith stared at the ground.
"What you said back at the hotel?"
"Yeah."
"D-Did you mean it?", looking down at Faith.
"Of course I-."
Buffy interupted.
"This isn't like one of your get some, and get gone kind of
thing is it?"
Faith grabbed Buffy's hand.
"B, I meant every word I said, In my mind all I could think of
was....how much I would love to tell you....'the' Buffy Summers how much
I loved you, but I was too afraid.
As Faith held Buffy's hand, Buffy slowly moved her head to reach Faith's. Her hands clenched tighty as she realized Buffy was about to kiss her. At that moment Faith started her descent towards Buffy's lips. As their lips touch a loud crash was heard in the crypt, at that instant both slayers stood up poised and ready for battle.
The slayers entered the crypt, cautious of their surroundings. Buffy took the left hallway, while Faith slipped in the right. The hallways poured into a large circular room where the demon was located. The slayers saw the demon digging through the wall looking for the septor. When Buffy gave the signal Faith quickly ran and jumped kicked the demon on the side. As it turned Buffy gave the demon a ferocious roundhouse kick which sent the demon to the ground. Faith grabbed the sword the demon was holding and rammed it through it's chest. The demon gave out a loud roar as she shoved the sword in farther.
Buffy spoke,
"I think it's dead now Faith."
"Oh!..I know..I was just making sure.", she replied.
"Looks like the demon should of thought twice before looking for his
precious septor." Buffy said childishly.
"You got that right, B.", dropping the sword.
"Now can we get out of here."
Buffy nodded, Faith was looking very tired.
She went to hold the brunettes hand.
"Sure..I'll walk you home.", smiling.
Faith opened the door to her hotel room and walked in, as Buffy stood in
the doorway.
"Aren't you gonna come in.", looking at Buffy.
"Nah..I'm starting to get tired too, I think I'll head home."
"What about the bench incident." Faith asked wondering what
Buffy thought of the very short and brief kiss they shared.
Buffy was remembering what had happened on the bench. Even
though the kiss was very short she still felt something that wasn't
there before.
Faith walked towards Buffy.
"Well what abou--."
Before Faith could finish her sentence, Buffy grabbed the brunettes
shoulders and kissed her full on the lips not wanting to let go.
Moments had pasted since the kiss began, the lips that were locked in
the heat of passion finally came to an end as Buffy broke off the long
sensual kiss.
"What's wrong.", worried that something was wrong.
"Oh nothings wrong, I was just thinking that this love
for each other was totally unexpected.
Faith smiled at Buffy as she carried her in the room shutting
the door behind them.
